The Production of Grammatical Morphemes in Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Kim Ji-Hye

Hwang Sang-Shim
Abstract
Background & Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the production of grammatical morphemes of children with autistic spectrum disorders.

Methods: The participants were 18 children with autism spectrum disorders and 18 typically developing children who were matched on receptive vocabulary level by REVT. To elicit grammatical morphemes, 60 pairs of pictures were used. Performances were analyzed by MANOVA.

Results: The production of grammatical morphology did not show significant differences between children with autism spectrum disorders and the typically developing children, but there were statistically significant differences between two groups in sub-type of grammatical morphemes. The children with autism spectrum disorders made more errors than the typically developing children.

Discussion & Conclusions: The results of the study suggest that the production of grammatical morphemes by children with autistic spectrum disorders was similar to that of children without language development impairment except for some specific grammatical morphemes, but analysis of the results also requires various language aspects to be considered together.
